TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 9, 2014

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on October 9, 2014 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Sawyers, LaJoie, Pins and Rogers present.  Also present were 4 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

            The minutes of the September 11, 2014 meeting were presented.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Pins to accept the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried. 

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills.  Checks # 8089 through # 8128 were presented for a total of $18,304.81.   All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Attorney Charles Palmer was present to explain the Ordinance Addressing Floodplain Management of the State Construction Code.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Pins to adopt a resolution stating that Bruce Township desires to participate in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Flood Insurance Program by complying with the program’s applicable statutory and regulatory requirements for the purpose of significantly reducing flood hazards and providing for the availability of flood insurance and federal funds or loans within its community.  Roll call vote:  Yeas, Marsh, Rogers, Pins, Sawyers and LaJoie.  Nays, None.  Resolution was adopted.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Pins to hold a public hearing on the ordinance at the November 13, 2014 meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Discussion was held on the proposed increase of electricity from Cloverland Electric.  Everyone is encouraged to write letters to our Congressman, stating our concerns.

 

            County Commission Report:  Commissioner McLean was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no meetings.

 

            Zoning Administrator Report:  There have been 35 permits issued this year.

 

            Assessor’s Report:  There will be 2 tax tribunals coming up.  They are working on the Land Value Maps.

 

            Planning Commission Report:  The Planning Commission met on Tues, October 7, 2014.  Marjorie Mitchell was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

 

            Carolyn Person was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $862,023.28.

 

            Clerks Report:  The routine water test showed nothing detected.

            The General Election will be November 4, 2014.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  There was no report.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  The dock will be taken out next week.

 

            Old Business:  We are waiting for more prints for the storage building.

            The Supervisor will contact Pats Lock and Key to have the new door handles installed.

            Shunk Rd. from 9 Mile to 13 Mile will be blacktopped in the spring.

 

            New Business:  The snowplow bid for the Township Hall and Fire Hall will be put in the newspaper classified ads.  Bids must be in by November 7, 2014 .

           

            Land Division was presented for Tom, Janet and Chad Sibbald on W. 13 Mile Rd.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Rogers to accept the land division as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Public Comment:  There were no comments.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Pins to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:57 p.m.
