TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 14, 2014

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on August 14, 2014 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Pins, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  The Supervisor arrived later as he was representing the Township at another meeting.  There were 4 Township residents present. The Clerk opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            With the absent of the Supervisor and with the boards approval, Trustee Pins was asked to chair the meeting until the Supervisor’s arrival.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments:

 

            The minutes of the July 10, 2014 meeting were presented.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Pins to accept the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Pins to pay the bills.  Checks #8009 through # 8052 were issued for a total of $ 153,378.63.   All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commission Report:  Commissioner McLean was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:   Supervisor Marsh is attending a meeting in Munising today.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 29 permits issued this year.

 

            Assessor’s Report:  The Assessor is continuing to put cards in the computer.  There will be a tax tribunal next Friday. 

 

            Planning Commission Report:  There was no meeting in August.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $1,005,345.69.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  The election was held on August 5, 2014 with 411 people voting.  The Bruce Township Road millage passed. 

            There will be a seminar on “Perfectly Legal: Disclosure & Lawful Expenditures” to be held at Boyne Mountain Resort, Boyne Falls on September 25, 2014.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  There was no report.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  There was no report.

 

            The Township is looking for members for the Board of Appeals.  Ward Pulfrey agreed to be one member.

 

            Old Business:  Discussion was held on a Maintenance & Firemen’s Storage Building.  With questions on needing a bigger size and rather we had to meet certain specs it was tabled until we find out some answers and a Special Meeting will be held.

 

            One bid was received for the Assessor Contract.  A bid of $25,000.00 was received from Christine Ledergerber.  Since we had some questions on our insurance coverage it was decided to table the contract until our Special Meeting.  The Special Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

 

            Carolyn Person has agreed to build a lectern.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Pins to have Carolyn Person build a lectern for the Township Hall.  Motion carried.

 

            Discussion was held on the problems people are having opening several of the doors.  Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to get the locks repaired.  Motion carried.

 

            New Business:  Discussion was held on resurfacing the blacktop on Shunk Rd. between 9 Mile Rd. and 13 Mile Rd.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to blacktop Shunk Rd. between 9 Mile Rd. and 13 Mile Rd with the Township’s share being $80,085.00 a mile.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Public Comment:  The Bruce Township Homemakers requested money for the Senior Citizen’s Dinner on October 4, 2014 at 5:30 p.m..  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to contribute $1500.00 toward the Senior Citizen Dinner.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Diane Laitinen will make new curtains for the Hall if we pick out material.

            A lot of positive feed back has been received on the newsletter.  It is being encouraged that we try and send it to everyone.

            The Board is encouraged to have the kitchen cleaned once a month.

            The ditches look much better since the grass has been cut.

 

            Motion was made by Pins, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:30 p.m.
