The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on September 11, 2014 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Sawyers, LaJoie, Pins, Rogers and Marsh present.  Also present were 3 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.


            Public Comment:  There were no comments.


            The minutes of the August 14, 2014 Meeting, the Special Meeting on August 21, 2014 and the Special Meeting held on August 27, 2014 were presented.  Motion was made by Pins, seconded by Rogers to accept the August 14, August 21 and August 27 minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.


            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded Pins to pay the bills.  Checks # 8053 through # 8088 were issued for a total of $ 18,478.68.  All were in favor, motion carried.


            County Commission Report:  Commissioner McLean was not present.


            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no meetings.


            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 31 permits issued this year.


            Assessor’s Report:  There are two tribunals coming up.  The Roe tribunal is over since Mr. Roe didn’t respond.


            Planning Commission Report:  There was no meeting in September.


            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $880,389.55.


            Clerk’s Report:  A letter was read from Chippewa County Health Department concerning tobacco free parks and recreation areas.

            MTA will be sponsoring two seminars on October 27 & 28 in Lansing, MI. One on “Township Finances” and one on “At Your Service: Meeting Township Needs”.  


            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had one call during the power outage.

            The pig roast will be October 18th from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m.  The cost for adults will be $12.00 with children remaining the same as last year.


            Grounds and Park Report:  There were some trees that were lost during the storm and a wash out at Dunbar Park.


            Old Business:  Gary Nitz of St Ignace is drawing up specs and prints for the Maintenance and Firemen’s Storage Building.


            The Assessor’s Contract was received from Christine Ledergerber with a bid of $25,000.00.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Rogers to accept the contract from Christine Ledergerber  for $25,000.00.  Roll call vote: Yeas, LaJoie, Sawyers, Rogers, Pins and Marsh.  Nays: 0.  Motion passed.


            Chippewa County Road Commission presented an agreement to improve Shunk Rd. from 9 Mile Rd. to 13 Mile Rd. for a distance 4.17 miles.  Improvements to consist of HMA 13A paving, gravel shoulders and pavement markings.  The total costs to the Township shall be $333,954.00 with $166,197.00 due at start of project.  Motion was passed at the August 14, 2014 to do this road work.


            Correspondence has been received from Fema with reference to the Township’s compliance with Flood Plains.  The Supervisor will contact the Lawyer for advice.


            Public Comments:  There were no comments.


            Motion was made by Pins, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
